Male Fertility – Diet for Father to be
Male Fertility – Diet for Father to be
In general the diet for a healthy father-to-be should be every bit as balanced, varied, and nutritious as the diet for mother-to-be.
A balanced diet is extremely important. Research shows that poor eating habits and drinking alcohol regularly, for instance, can lower the quality and quantity of sperm. Infertility is as much a man’s problem as it is a woman’s. It is reported that approximately 30 â 40% of infertility can be attributed to men. Nutrition could have a direct impact on the potency of sperm. Following a healthy diet could boost your chances of conceiving a child.
Specifically, future dads should eat plenty of foods rich in vitamin C, get more zinc and increase intake of calcium, vitamin D, vitamin E and L-arginine.
There are many contributors towards the improvement of male fertility (some work more effectively in combination with others):
Promoters of fertility (in alphabetical order)
Calcium â is a key regulator of sperm function. It improves the vitality and longevity of sperm.
Sources: low fat milk, yoghurt, cheese, hummus, broccoli, spinach, salmon, sunflower seeds, almonds, sesame seeds.
Chromium â is an essential trace mineral involved with blood-sugar regulation and the hormone insulin. Severe chromium deficiency may interfere with normal growth and decreased fertility.
Sources: raw onions, romaine lettuce, tomatoes, honey, brewers yeast, oysters, liver.
Coenzyme Q10 â is a nutrient mainly used by the body in the production of energy but it has been linked to increases in sperm count and motility.
Sources: beef, soy, mackerel, sardines, spinach, peanuts, vegetable oil.
Essential Fatty Acidâs â EFAâs have a critical effect on every part of the body, both of the important families omega-3 and omega-6 are components of nerve cells and cellular membrane throughout the body. They act as hormone regulators. Sperm tails contain high concentrations of omega-3 fatty acids particularly DHA. Semen is rich in prostaglandinâs, which are produced from fatty acids. Diet alone sometimes cannot offer sufficient intake of essential fatty acids; supplementation of fish oils can help to restore depleted levels of omega-3 levels.
Sources: linseed oil, flaxseed oil, hemp oil, starflower oil, evening primrose oil, herring, salmon, mackerel, sardines.
Folic Acid (also known as folate) â is a form of water-soluble B vitamins. Studies have shown those most deficient in folic acid could have lower quality and lower density of sperm. Folic acid is said to work more effectively in combination with zinc.
Sources: grains, wheat germ, spinach, liver, eggs, romaine lettuce, lentils, fortified cereals.
L-arginine â is an amino acid found in the head of sperm, it is essential in sperm formation; it increases sperm count and quality, and also, improves sexual desire and ejaculation.
Sources: in the food chain arginine is found in chicken, turkey and other meats.
L-carnitine â is an amino acid that is essential for normal functioning of sperm cells. Higher levels of L-carnitine equals higher levels of sperm count and motility.
Sources: mutton, lamb, beef, pork, rabbit, chicken, cowâs milk.
Niacin (also known as vitamin B3) â is critical to energy production. It causes a large release of histamine all over the body it aids proper circulation for long lasting erections.
Sources: liver, peanuts, chicken, tuna, salmon, peanut butter.
Selenium â is an anti-oxidant that protects against sperm damage, maximises sperm formation and can reduce mobility. Low levels of selenium have been found in men with low sperm count. It works synergistically with vitamin E.
Sources: brazil nuts, tuna, beef, cod, turkey, noodles, egg, rice.
Vitamin B12 â is needed to maintain fertility, it improves low sperm count and sperm motility.
Sources: meat, dairy products, eggs, yeast.
Vitamin C â reduces the risk of sperm damage protecting them from oxidant damage. It stops sperm from clumping together making them more motile (clumping reduces fertility).
Sources: cereals, apple juice, grapefruit, orange, strawberries, asparagus, red cabbage, peppers, new potatoes, peas.
Vitamin D â may help to improve fertility because it assists in the absorption of calcium from the food that you eat.
Sources: low fat milk, salmon, mackerel, cod liver oil, tuna, sardines, eggs, cereals.
Vitamin E â increases fertility. The anti-oxidant properties are said to make sperm more fertile â by protecting from damage and increasing quality. It corrects the functioning of the endocrine glands that produce hormones, which influence growth, development and metabolic activity. Vitamin E is more effective when taken with another key anti-oxidant – Vitamin C.
Sources: wheat germ, almonds, sunflower seeds / oil, safflower oil, hazelnuts.
Zinc â is involved in the health of reproductive organs and prostate glands and virtually every aspect of male reproduction. It is found in high concentration in the sperm and is needed to make the outer layer and the tail of the sperm. Even short-term deficiencies can reduce sperm volume and testosterone levels. Zinc is said to work more effectively in combination with folic acid.
Sources: pumpkin seeds, baked beans, chick peas, muesli, oysters, extra lean mince beef, dark chicken meat.
It is not always possible to obtain satisfactory levels of these substances from diet alone, taking supplements can sometimes be a good way of ensuring adequate levels are maintained but do not over-do this.
Inhibitors of fertility (in alphabetical order)
Alcohol â can cause a decrease in sperm count and testosterone levels and contributes towards the production of abnormal sperm. It can also lead to lower proportions of motile sperm. Alcohol also inhibits zinc one of the more important minerals for male fertility.
Cut out or cut back on alcohol. While an occasional drink is generally considered safe, studies show that daily consumption of wine, beer or spirits can be detrimental.
Caffeine â like alcohol it can prevent your body from receiving and absorbing nutrients leading to problems with sperm count, abnormalities and motility.
Drugs â recreational drugs such as marijuana and cocaine should be avoided. These can affect the brain chemistry responsible for releasing reproductive hormones. A father’s drug use can also cause birth defects.
It is also wise to check with your doctor about medicines as some of these can suppress sperm production and quality.
Radiation and chemicals â exposure to hazardous substances at work can also damage sperm, reduce sperm count and possibly cause genetic defects.
Smoking â decreases sperm count, makes sperm more sluggish and increases the number of abnormal sperm. Smoking is also known to decrease vitamin C levels in our bodies.
Stress â even minimal stress can cause a manâs testosterone levels and sperm count to drop.
Recommendations for improving male fertility
Sperm is produced 24 hours a day, 7 days a week but it takes approximately 72-90 days (up to 3 months) to produce mature sperm. It is should be recognised that any changes in lifestyle, diet etc. need time to have an effect.
The basic message is that you need to commit yourself to a few months of clean living and healthy eating which means plenty of fruit, vegetables, whole grains, low-fat dairy products, lean meats – and a safer lifestyle, you will then be in good shape to father a child. It may be necessary to take some supplements to ensure that optimum levels of minerals, vitamins and fatty acids (link) are obtained. In some cases studies have shown that RDA levels need to be exceeded to restore imbalances.
Terms used:
Motile sperms – swim forward in an essentially straight line but non-progressively motile sperms swim in a more abnormal path, such as tight circles. They are less likely to find the target!
Aggulation of sperms – relates to the âclumpingâ of sperm (when sperm sticks together) it reduces fertility.

The Book – Sealed With Seven Seals
The Book – Sealed With Seven Seals
<!– @page { margin: 0.79in } P { margin-bottom: 0.08in } –>
The apostle saw in the hand of Him that sat upon the throne, a roll of parchments in the form usual in those times, and sealed with seven seals. This represented the secret purposes of God about to be revealed. The designs and methods of Divine Providence, toward the church and the world, are stated, fixed, and made a matter of record. The counsels of God are altogether hidden from the eye and understanding of the creature. The several parts are not unsealed and opened at once, but after each other, till the whole mystery of God’s counsel and conduct is finished in the world.
(Rev 5:1 KJV) And I saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals.
Hitherto the apostle had seen only the great God, the governor of all things, now, he is favored with a sight of the model and methods of his government, as they are all written down in a book which he holds in his hand; and this we are now to consider as shut up and sealed in the hand of God. Observe the designs and methods of divine Providence towards the church and the world are stated and fixed; they are resolved upon and agreed to, as that which is written in a book. The great design is laid, every part adjusted, all determined, and every thing passed into decree and made a matter of record. The original and first draught of this book is the book of God’s decrees, laid up in his own cabinet, in his eternal mind: but there is a transcript of so much as was necessary to be known in the book of the scriptures in general, in the prophetical part of the scripture especially, and in this prophecy in particular. God holds this book in his right hand, to declare the authority of the book, and his readiness and resolution to execute all the contents thereof, all the counsels and purposes therein recorded.
(Rev 5:1 KJV) And I saw on the right hand of him that sat on the throne,….
Of this throne, and who it was that sat upon it;
(Rev 4:2 KJV) and one sat on the throne;
not the trinity of persons in the Godhead, which some think are signified by the three precious stones in Rev_4:3,
(Rev 4:3 KJV) And he that sat was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone: and there was a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald.
the jasper, sardine, and emerald; for, as distinct from him that sat upon the throne, the Lamb is said to be in the midst of it, and the seven spirits of God are said to be before it: nor is Jesus Christ intended, and his two natures; his divine nature by the jasper, and his human nature by the red and blood colored sardine; since he, the Lamb, is represented as in the midst of the throne, and is often distinguished from him that sat upon it;
(Rev 5:6 KJV) And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.
but God the Father is designed, who sits on the throne, though not to the exclusion of the Son and Spirit, yet in distinction from them. This clause is left out in the Ethiopic version.
And who had “in” his right hand, or “at”, or “upon” his right hand, as the Syriac and Arabic versions render it, lying by, or near his right hand; though according to,
(Rev 5:7 KJV) And he came and took the book out of the right hand of him that sat upon the throne.
the book appears to have been in his right hand, as our version, and others render it:
This book in the hand of God is shut up and sealed; it is known to none but himself, till he allows it to be opened. Known unto God, and to him alone, are all his works, from the beginning of the world; but it is his glory to conceal the matter as he pleases. The times and seasons, and their great events, he hath kept in his own hand and power. It is sealed with seven seals.
(Rev 5:1 KJV) a book written within, and on the backside, sealed with seven seals:
This book was very much like Ezekiel’s roll,
(Eze 2:9 KJV) And when I looked, behold, an hand was sent unto me; and, lo, a roll of a book was therein;
which was written ???? ?????, “within” and “without”, before and behind, and indeed it was in the form of a roll: the manner of writings in those times was on sheets of parchment, which, when finished, were rolled up in the form of a cylinder; hence a book is called a “volume”. This book seems to have consisted of seven rolls, to which was annexed seven seals; and there being not room enough within, contrary to the common way of writing, some things were written upon the backside of the outermost roll; and such writings were by the ancients called “Opistographi”: and the word is used by them sometimes for very prolix writings.
By this book some understand the Scriptures of the Old Testament, which were written in rolls;
(Heb 10:5 KJV) Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me:
and which came out of the right hand of God, and were given forth by him; and being written within, and on the backside, may denote the fullness of them, they containing a variety of matter, useful and profitable, for different purposes; or else the literal and mystical, or spiritual meaning of some parts of them: or, as others think, the more clear explanation of the books of the Old Testament, by those of the New Testament; and its being sealed may signify the authenticity of those writings, having the seal of God’s truth, and the impress of his wisdom, power, and goodness on them; and also the hidden sense and meaning of them, they being, especially in the prophetic and spiritual part of them, a sealed book to natural men, and of which Christ is the truest and best interpreter; but then this book was opened, and looked into, and read, and, in some measure, understood, even by the Old Testament saints, and had been before this time expounded by Christ, concerning himself; yea, he had opened the understandings of his disciples to understand those Scriptures, and had counted them, and others, worthy to open and explain this book to others, and had sent them into all the world for this purpose; and for the same reasons it cannot be understood of the Gospel published to Jews and Gentiles, the one within, and the other without; rather therefore the book of God’s decrees is here meant, which respects all creatures, and all occurrences and events in the whole world, from the beginning to the end of time; and so Ezekiel’s roll, according to the Targum;
(Eze 2:10 KJV) And he spread it before me; and it was written within and without: and there was written therein lamentations, and mourning, and woe.
which was written before and behind, signified that which was ?? ?????, “from the beginning”, and which ????? ????? ?????, “shall be in the end”, or hereafter. This book God holds “in his right hand”, as the rule and measure of all he does, and of the government of the world, and which he constantly fulfils and executes; and its being written “within and without” may denote the perfection and comprehensiveness of it, it reaching to all creatures and things, even the most minute; and its being “sealed” shows the certainty of its fulfillment, and the secrecy and hiddenness of it, until accomplished; though it seems best of all to understand it of that part of God’s decrees relating to the church and world, particularly the Roman empire, which from henceforward, to the end of time, was to be fulfilled; and so is no other than the book of the Revelation itself, exhibited in the following scenes and visions; and this may be truly said to be in the right hand of God, and from thence taken by the Lamb, it being the revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, Rev_1:1;
(Rev 1:1 KJV) The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John:
and may be said to be written, both “within and on the backside”, to show that it contains a large account of things, a long train of events to be accomplished; as also to signify, that it regards the church, and the members of it, who are those that are within, in the several ages of time, and the world, or those that are without; for this book prophecy regards both the state of the Roman empire, and of the Christian church; and its being “sealed” shows the authenticity, certainty, and also the obscurity of what was contained therein; and with “seven” seals, with respect to the seven periods of time, in which the prophecies in it are to be fulfilled.
This tells us with what inscrutable secrecy the counsels of God are laid, how impenetrable by the eye and intellect of the creature; and also points us to seven several parts of this book of God’s counsels. Each part seems to have its particular seal, and, when opened, discovers its proper events; these seven parts are not unsealed and opened at once, but successively, one scene of Providence introducing another, and explaining it, till the whole mystery of God’s counsel and conduct be finished in the world.

40 Mile Reds. Georgia Style! – Part-1
40 Mile Reds. Georgia Style! – Part-1
We all have that tendency to whine a little when someone says, “It’s a 40 mile run, but the fish ought to be there”.Well, let me take all the doubts out of making that long run decision.If bottom fishing is your game,the Red Snapper is biting as good as last year,if not a little better.
The opportunity arose for me to make the long run in comfort to do some bottom fishing.So,I decided to load up on the “Hoss Fly”,a 30-ft.Topaz Captained by Rick Stallard.Once again, I was off to the 40-mile ledge southeast of the Georgia Coast.My favorite place to fish on our small, but fertile 100 – mile coastline.
A pleasant surprise awaited us in 70 feet.of water on the journey east.From the tower of the “Hoss Fly”,we watched birds swoop and dive at the water from a mile away. When we got close, the answer was clear.The bait marked up in textbook form on the CVS 106 bottom machine.We knew the bait was not going to be a problem after that marking!Goggle Eyes by the thousands swarmed with the structure along with sardines the length of an unsharpened pencil.
We heard tale of some very large Boston Mackerel in the area, but our Sabiki’s boasted only Goggles and Sardines.I did not see that as a problem. The size of the baits we caught was plenty big enough to get my adrenaline pumping,and after about 60 baits were in the well,we headed east another 20 miles.
As we approached the holy numbers,we talked of how good the fishing has been,and how good it BETTER be today! Capt. Matt Amie and I retired our beanbags and began making bottom rigs. Within a few short minutes,we had 6 rigs ready to send down as we idled slowly up to the number I had programmed in the GPS. We were ready.We all stared at the CVS 106 waiting for the bottom to blow up on the screen.
Finally, after several passes, there she was.That beautiful,bright colored marking rising high off the bottom and pointing sharply into the current. Rick screamed for the crew to “Send âem!” I just watched on the first go-round to see the brutal “butt whipping’”get put on some of our crew members who had never caught a Red Snapper.I watched eagerly as the 16 ounce weight peeled line off the Tidewater GOLD 30 Reels as they carried the live Sardines to the bottom.
The crew quickly slammed the levers on the reels to strike,and I instructed them to make 3 full reels off the bottom to prevent any hang up on the structure.It was about 5 seconds, and the screaming and feet shuffling began!There’s nothing quite like hearing the screams of a happy Angler hooked up with a BIG fish and the Captain on the Radio in the background telling his partners “We are Tripled Up!”

How far up the food chain are anchovy, sardines and mackerel?
Question by Mad Max: How far up the food chain are anchovy, sardines and mackerel?
I ask because I’ve been taking some Omega-3 fish oil and from what I understand, fish that are higher up on the food chain have higher concentrations of mercury in them. The fish oil is made out of anchovy, sardines, and mackerel.
Best answer:
Answer by ldouble_e
They are at the bottom. They are small fish and eat microscopic plankton. The higher fish on the chain are large and consume large amounts of mercury containing fish every day. Thus they get larger amounts of the stuff in their system.

Ten Natural Products To Lower Cholesterol
Ten Natural Products To Lower Cholesterol
Sometimes in the battle against high cholesterol it is easy to look past the obvious and affordable, in favor or prescription medications. This could be a mistake! Many of the natural products to lower cholesterol listed in this article you have probably walked by hundreds of times in your local grocery store, as you were thinking about how to squeeze in your 30 minute workout, or worrying about how to get your blood lipid profile back in balance. If it is any consolation I have done the same thing on numerous occasions. In this article we will briefly touch on ten natural products to lower cholesterol that are affordable, and in plain sight at your local grocery store. These are not the only ones, maybe not even the best ones, but nevertheless studies show that all ten will in fact lower your cholesterol.

Why You Should Eat Fish
Why You Should Eat Fish
Fish is a good source of nutrition and many kinds of fish are low-cost and easy to prepare. The American Heart Association recommends that people eat 2-3 meals of fish a week. EHIB recommends people eat a variety of fish and shellfish as part of a balanced diet. Fish is an excellent low-fat food, a great source of protein, vitamins and minerals.
Some fish, particularly fatty, cold water fish such as salmon, mackerel and herring are high in omega-3 fatty acids, a type of fat that helps make your blood less likely to form clots that may cause heart attacks. Anchovies, sardines and lake trout are other good sources of omega-3 fatty acids. Especially for those at risk of heart disease, the benefit of eating fish that’s rich in omega-3 fatty acids outweighs potential risks.
Eating a variety of fish helps to reduce your chances of stroke or heart attack. Omega-3 fatty acids are polyunsaturated fatty acids found in all seafood, including shellfish, oysters and shrimp. When combined with a healthy diet, research suggests these fatty acids help protect against heart disease and reduces the chance of some strokes. Studies show that the healthy effects of omega-3s can be achieved by eating fish twice a week. Since there are more than 200 species of fish and shellfish available, adding fish and shellfish to your weekly eating plan is easy.
Different types of seafood give different health benefits. Oily fish, such as salmon, mackerel, sardines and trout are rich in omega 3 fatty acids and is a good source of vitamins A and D. White fish, which includes haddock, plaice, coley and cod are very low in fat and contains omega 3 fatty acids as well. And lastly shellfish, which includes prawns, mussels and crabs are low in fat, good sources of zinc, iodine and copper, and some types of shellfish have omega 3 fatty acids as well. Fish where you also eat the bone, such as salmon and sardines, help bones to become stronger and are good sources of calcium and phosphorus.
Fish, like meats, eggs, and dairy products, can contain chemicals. Different types of fish have more chemicals than others, and people should limit their consumption of these fish. Shark, swordfish, tilefish, and king mackerel have large amounts of mercury, and pregnant and nursing women, as well as women who may become pregnant and children, should not eat these four fish.
Happy fish eating!
